Nature has its own set of rules, be
it hunting or protection and in many cases, animals have it better than humans
ever could. However, animals have their protection system to survive major
storms which even modern science fails to do. While some cases are a mystery to
us even now, most of the cases have amazed scientists so much that they are
even practically applied in real-world scenarios for human protection. Don’t
believe what you just read? Well, here are some ways nature has developed in
the animal kingdom to help them survive major storms.
Finding an appropriate place
Next time you see a cow running
toward a hilltop, expect a storm on the way. Almost every animal species
possesses the power of sensing an approaching storm. The major way of avoiding
is by finding an appropriate place to stay safe. They could go high, as in a
hilltop, they could go under, as in a digging hole, or they can find a cave to
survive. This is in case of animals having no special features and is common in
animals you generally see around yourself.
Body modifications
This might look like a cheat to you,
but some animals have special features on their body that help them survive
storms. An excellent example of the same is lizards, who can develop a super
grip. They find safe places to hide, as in stable trees, rocks or even cave
surfaces and stay there until the danger passes away. This is not all, many
other animals have evolved to be able to stay
underwater or land for a significant span of time with the limited amount of
air. This is beneficial in case of a sudden storm on slaughter which could
otherwise become fatal.
Habits
While animals do prefer to lay low
during the time of the storm, it is not always possible for some cases. In
these special circumstances, animals generally deploy special habits to be able
to get away with their logos intact. In case of high-velocity winds, birds and
other animals usually don’t go opposite to them and try to incline with them as
much as possible. Also, during really heavy storms, insects and birds tend to
fly lower in areas having less wind velocity. They also tend to cover
themselves, which has less of a chance of damaging them than the open spaces.
Underwater
Land animals are not the only ones
having it tough. Sea and other major forms of water bear witness to their fair
share of storms in their life cycle. They don’t have caves or hills to run to.
Science shows that these animals tend to move into the deeper part of the
waters which is generally a lot calmer than the surface during the storm. The
animals of the deep waters also have coral reefs, underground caves, and seabed
available to them to hide away from major storms which are about to hit the
water.
Camouflage
The last one on this list is not a
natural phenomenon, but rather a survival tactic animal has developed over the
years, and that is to camouflage into the human settlements. Humans have built
some impressive ways to combat the threat of storm and animals merely make
fullest of what’s already existing. They tend to hide away in these shelters
along with humans to avoid long-range migration or finding a cave. This is
generally the case with common animals like cats, dogs, and lizards. Some other
even escape into the sewage pipes and underground tunnels to escape the outer
calamity.
Humans are not the only ones with
brains, and the animal world is constantly evolving too and finding new
solutions to their problems. As the natural calamities are becoming more and
more common, loss of nature and wildlife is also increasing, yet the animal
world always finds a way around to save its members. Remember, animals are
smart and can move around unlike trees, so if you see them behave abnormally,
be ready for something to come your way. Observation and learning are the keys
